May 3rd, 2020 in North Carolina more than a dozen armed white men with flashlights and guns led by and off duty deputy by the name of Jordan Kita, tried to forcefully enter the home of Monica Shephard was caught on video by a fellow neighbor.
In a sit-down interview with News4Jax, Monica Shepard, and her son along with New Hanover District Attorney Ben David tell about the terrifying night. Monica stated that by the time she heard the door her teenage son, Dameon Shephard, a senior at Laney High School in Wilmington, had already answered the knock at the door. From there she witnessed the group of armed men trying to forcefully enter their home, as her son Dameon repeatedly telling the group that they had the wrong home and the person they were looking for used to live next door. Apparently the deputy and the group of armed white men, by the way, who are not officers were looking for a 15-year-old girl by the name of Lekayde Kimpistry who was reported missing earlier that day. Lekayde was said to have been with someone by the name of Josiah who used to live next door from the Shephard's. As all of this occurred neighbors started to come out of their homes and also observed what had taken place as they immediately called 911. When the police arrived the deputy Jordan Kita was still on the scene with the group of armed men.
All were questioned but there was no arrest even though there were several witnesses on the scene.... 5 days later the deputy was arrested for misdemeanor trespass and breaking and entering charges. The deputy was also fired from the New Hanover sheriff's office. Well, Apparently there is a mandate in place at the DA's office that says, " Law enforcement officer's who commit certain misdemeanors can't be immediately arrested at the scene until after their case has been investigated" is what a spokesperson for the Pender County Sheriffs office told New4Jax on the reasoning for the delay of the deputy's arrest. A second man who was apart of the armed group was said to also be charged with criminal charges for " going armed to the terror of the public." As for the 15-year-old girl, it is said that she has been found but in another area nowhere near the Shepards home.
