After families across the Nation experienced Virtual Learning for their children in 2020 during the pandemic, there has been a surge of parents in our community who have looked into the homeschooling alternative for their children moving forward. Our community home school scene has grown significantly and is the highest on the United States charts. Reasons such as racism, safety concerns, and the white washing in the public school system empowered parents to change the way their children receive education.

1. Traditional School Curriculum
There are several reasons why parents in our community are choosing Home School over the traditional School system. Reasons such as not having enough true empowering diverse history taught to our children next to racism in the school system are among the top reasons parents have taken education into their own hands.
2. Learning Styles
Every student learns differently. Every student is not the same when it comes to teaching. With classroom size that consists of 18-25 kids, there are several children who are left behind and are not able to keep up with the pace of the classroom. Some children may need a little more time with a subject to really master and know what it is that they were actually taught and this may mean to spend more one on one time with that student when this happens.
3. Safety Concerns
We are seeing a SIGNIFICANT amount of children being affected by school violence such as school shootings, threats, fights, and racism. The violation of our children's safety at school is at an all time high. Racism & Discrimination in the Public School System has been around for decades and has played a part in the role of the graduation rate of our children. Seeing a surge of videos going viral showing children being discriminated against for their hair, clothing or just the way they look has prompt not only safety concerns, but also reminds us that Racism & Discrimination in our Public School System still exist.

Why Are More Families In Our Community Choosing To Home School
Yes Home school is not for everyone, but Home school can be done whether you work outside your home or work from home. It’s all about what schedule you have in your household, what goals you have set for your child, and the determination you have to invest in your children's future. With homeschooling you are able to integrate lessons and activities that your student can identify with and your child is receiving that one on one time that is much needed with our children.
Whatever your reason is behind converting to homeschooling there are several options you have to home school your children. You can do it the traditional way and fully home school your child yourself, you can enroll your child with a private home school program that are available for a cost, or you can choose to do this through your State's School District if it is offered as an alternative. Not all States have this alternative for free. Mostly all Homeschooling/ Remote Learning programs under your School District are based on a regular class schedule with the traditional class lessons. Some programs offer lessons for advanced education that go beyond just that grade level while exploring the career aspect as well as college. With older children, they may have more than 1 teacher due to having more than 1 class. All virtual classrooms are in a setting that will include a regular class size virtually to where students can still engage with each other. Most programs through your School District will have tutors as well if your child is needing a tutor. When it comes to younger children this may be a little different especially if they are not yet able to attend online classes through your School District due to their age. There are many private programs you can take advantage of that your Preschooler or school age child can do from home based on your family needs.
In our community we have this stigma about homeschooling. When making the decision a lot of parents worry about their child missing out on their social life. Putting your child in extracurricular activities and linking up with other parents in your community that are homeschooling also to do group lessons will keep your child active and keep your child from missing out on the social aspect. Keep in mind when choosing home school everything does not always have to be about teaching the traditional way. Like I stated earlier every child has their own learning style so be creative with homeschooling!
