Rip City Celebration Of Black History- The Trail Blazers take on the New Orleans Pelicans. this night will be featured with special performances, retail items and multiple fundraising efforts benefiting Elevate Oregon which is a non-profit organization whose mission is to build relationships with urban youth to promote education, self-reliance, and leadership. Black Features Ball at Portland's Center Stage- The Black Features Ball will feature 7 categories celebrating black excellence & the Ballroom community at large. Saturday, January 11th, 2020- March 1st, 2020
Seeing It Through: A Visual Manifestation of The Black Panther Party's Legacy In Portland - This exhibition is open during the hours of the Central Library's hours of operation. The Portland Black Panther Party formed the Portland chapter in 1969 in response to racism that marginalized and harmed black Portlanders. The Black Panther Party's goal was to build equity for the oppression in our city. This exhibition features artwork by Elijah Hasan and the HeArt Gallery that responds to the legacy of the Black Panther's Ten-Point Program. This event is open to ALL ages. February 6th - 28th 2020
Noir Black History Month Shows- The drag queens of Nori will fill out the month with shows honoring Black Icons & Pop Culture. This will include performances dedicated to the late Whitney Houston Thursday, Feb 6th, Female Rappers Thursday, Feb 13th, and Black Sitcoms Fri Feb 28th.
These events will be located at the Timbre Room Downtown Seattle WA.
Saturday, February 29th, 2020
Black History Month Community Celebration- Learn about Seattle's history in Hip Hop, The African Diaspora, and the Antiracist Social justice opportunities at this all-day event. Check out a community expo spread out across the galleries in between panels. Drinking age people can stay and enjoy the after-party with live DJ's and art activities. February 11th- March 10th, 2020
smARTfilms: Black Excellence- This series created by Sade McInnis, includes 5 films that showcase black brilliance: I Am Not Your Negro (Feb 11th), Fences (Feb 18th), Precious (Feb 25th), Do The Right Thing (March 3rd), and If Beale Street Could Talk (March 10th). ALSO THROUGH MARCH 2020
Iconic Black Women: Ain't I A Woman- Hiawatha D. pays artistic tribute to brilliant black women of history with his signature abstract style inspired by cubism and surrealism. The location will be at the Northwest African American Museum (Atlantic).
This traveling Smithsonian show highlights the achievements of African American men, from the Harlem Hellfighters to John Coltrane to LeBron James. The location will be at the Washington State History Museum (Tacoma).
